The objective of the Book Club is to encourage a habit of reading. Reading followed by discussion, not only makes learning more enjoyable but enhances understanding and retention.

Our book selections are not from the core Islamic studies curriculum, but rather from other important subjects such as history, biographies, and the natural sciences. By reading these books within the environment of an Islamic academy, participants can benefit from the insights of qualified teachers, who will highlight relevant Islamic themes and help clarify any questions that may arise.

Our first book starting in November 2025 is Lost Islamic History by Firas Alkhateeb. This is an entry-level book on Islamic history which is easy to follow without prior deep knowledge. Participants are expected to purchase their own copy of the book.

The format of the sessions will be discussion based and interactive. Participants will read pre-allocated sections of the book in advance and then share their reflections and lessons. Each session will be supervised by a faculty member though they may or may not always be present.

Participants will have the option to be active or passive members. Active participants will be allocated sections of the book and will share an approximately 8-minute verbal presentation of their reflections at the beginning of the session. Passive participants are welcome to attend, listen, and benefit without the pressure to present.

Sessions will run monthly, on the second Saturday, giving participants ample time to read and prepare. Each session is expected to last 60 to 90 minutes. Depending on interest, we will have up to four speakers per session, and it may take three to four sessions to complete a standard-sized book.

For brothers only. Starting 8th November. Every 2nd Saturday 11 am. In the Madrasah Building, Masjid E Hidaya, M16 9DD

Joining the book club is free of charge. Voluntary donations to the Academy are welcome.
